Abstract

Sivaganesan, Mano. 2003. Incorporating lot variability on developing minimum Ct requirements for inactivation of Cryptosporidium parvum with ozone. JEMREST 2:01-08

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is developing Ct criteria for the inactivation of Cryptosporidium with ozone as part of the Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR). A method was developed to incorporate the variability in inactivation kinetics due to different lots of oocysts in estimating minimum Ct requirements for a known inactivation level of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. A three-step process to estimate the lot variability and a formula are provided to calculate a 100(1-alpha)% confidence bound for this variability. The calculations can be easily performed using standard computer softwares.
